March 1st is Ash Wednesday and the kick-off for the spring campaign for 40 Days for Life.  Thus, we offer up another pro-life edition of CATHOLIC IDAHO!  We kick off with Diana Grandy at KTFI interviewing John & Kathy Dyson, siblings who call St. Edward's parish in Twin Falls their spiritual home.  Then, we chat with a couple of young people involved in Treasure Valley Teens for Life during our "Passionately Pro-Life" segment, wrapped up with a beautiful song by Jaime Thietten.  Finally, Bishop Peter's homily during the pro-life Mass on January 21st at St. John's Cathedral. 

   This new local program is hosted by Fr. Caleb Vogel from St. Paul's parish in Nampa, with participation by Hans Nederend (revert and long-time Bible study leader) and Brian Howell (convert to Catholicism in 2001 but Protestant youth group leader in the late 80's)  Tune in every Tuesday at 3:30pm as we go verse-by-verse and discuss the nuances and rich symbolism throughout this beautiful Gospel. 

Study #1 = John 1:1-14

   After a productive weekend retreat, today's topic on DEACON DIARIES is "Reasons For Retreat."  Deacon Bob is your host and shares with the listeners the many reasons Christians need to find time for a retreat.

   Daniel Miller and the youth group at Our Lady of the Valley in Caldwell return one more time to host MADE FOR MORE - the Catholic Radio Show for Teens!  As they wrap up "Love Month" (in honor of Valentine's Day) they discuss the tough questions of teen relationships.  Hear about the pressures our young people feel in a secular world over-saturated with sexuality.

   Jake and Lindsay Dyson host another episode of WHERE FAITH BEGINS and today's topic is "Preparing for Lent."

   Salt & Light Catholic Radio presents another pro-life edition of CATHOLIC IDAHO!  During this local program, Diana Grandy talks to Nicki Kroese from Stanton Health Care in Twin Falls … and our Passionately Pro-Life team of Emily Naugle and Karen Simkins prepare us for 40 Days for Life.  Plus, the Tall Truth from Shelly Donahue.

   After the opening tip-off, St. Mark's used a powerful offensive attack led by Aiden McCarthy, who finished the game with 16 points.  The Lions then used suffocating defense and tremendous rebounding in the second half to win the Boys Championship 45-28 over Tri-Parish.  Cole Schlader led the Pirates in scoring, also finishing with 16 points.

   This game was fast-paced with great skills shown by both teams.  The final score did not reflect the exciting action - it seemed at times there was a lid covering the hoop!  Tremendous shots taken that would roll off or rattle out and the teams then raced to the other end of the court.  Will Kinneman took control of the contest, scoring 14 points and leading Holy Apostles to the 25-13 win over Sacred Heart.  Cole Roberts also had 8 in the victory.  The Crusaders were only 3-of-16 from the free throw line and Gabe Clement led the team in scoring with 5 points.

   In a rematch from earlier in the brackets, the 8th grade girls from St. Mark's faced the Tri-Parish Pirates.  The Lady Lions used a full-court press from the opening tip-off to jump out to an early lead but could only muster a single point in the 2nd qtr!  Steady offensive leadership from Madison Shears and 7pts from Hallie Klapprich late in the game forced this contest into overtime.  It all came down to a buzzer-beater from Hope Schwartz that won the game 35-34 for Tri-Parish.  Ali Chatterton led St. Mark's in scoring with 13 while Shears was the leader with 12 for the Lady Pirates.

   February is "Love Month" on MADE FOR MORE - the Catholic Radio Show for Teens.  Daniel Miller and members of his youth group program at Our Lady of the Valley in Caldwell discuss the many different topics of love and what that looks like among our family, in our faith and with our friends.

Arnie Miller.  You will hear excerpts from past pledge drives along with stories and memories of those who either worked alongside him or knew him through a long list of ministries.  Thousands of lives were touched by this gentle spirit, who passed away unexpectedly on November 14th.  We hope this will be a fitting tribute to our beloved friend.

The Knights tried to win their fourth straight 4A state title, facing off against Skyline from Idaho Falls at Albertson's Stadium at BSU.  The Grizzlies overcame an early 21-point deficit and rallied to a 50-49 victory - winning the school's first football championship since 1998.  Special thanks to the BK sponsors and everyone involved who made this another exciting season of Knights football.
